GRAND POLLUTION IN THE GRAND CANYON STATE

Arizona is known for its scenic views and its thermometer-busting temperatures. However, in the middle of the desert bustles an urban metropolis that's home to millions.

Phoenix is both the nation's fifth largest city and its eighth most ozone-polluted one, according to the American Lung Association's 2018 findings.

​

Despite this ominous label, hope isn't lost for breathing clean air while enjoying the city.

Sitting amidst the hustle and bustle of modern-day Phoenix is an ancient reminder of people who have long since passed.

 

While Hohokam culture faded when its people dispersed into different groups, clues about how they lived as a once sprawling civilization can shed light on the former inhabitants of the Phoenix Basin and how much the area has changed over the centuries.
